Helpers of God's Precious Infants (Ottawa–Gatineau)

Sidewalk counselling

What are you willing to do to end abortion?

Let not the staggering numbers of children killed discourage you. You can make a difference. The Helpers of God's Precious Infants (Ottawa-Gatineau) are working towards building a culture of life one soul at a time by praying and sidewalk counselling at the killing places.

In Ottawa, at the abortuary at 65 Bank St., the killings take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and the occasional Saturday, between 8 am and 4 pm. At least 2350 children are killed there each year. If you have any spare time or are able to reprioritize your commitments, we implore you to be concerned enough about these poor victims - children and their mothers - to make yourself available to them. We have both a civic and Christian responsibility to come to their aid. By participating in sidewalk counselling you can be an instrument of God's love, mercy and peace.

What is sidewalk counselling?

Are you called to be a sidewalk counsellor?

Goals :

  • Convert mother and accomplices.
  • Save the child from abortion.
  • Lay foundation for the child's future through family oriented guidance and support.

Special considerations for sidewalk counsellors

  • Be flexible : be prepared to vary your approach depending on each circumstance (all the while maintaining the core spiritual approach).
  • Men as well as women can be effective sidewalk counsellors (sometimes, for personal reasons, a woman will trust a man more than another woman).
  • Willing to receive training. (We will provide training.)

Attitudes and spiritual preparation for the sidewalk counsellor and vigiler at the site include:

  • A conviction that each one of us has sometime or another aborted God's Will.
  • Have the conviction and the humility that nothing comes from us but with God all is possible.
  • Be committed to personal prayer, retreats and spiritual direction.
  • Recognize your own limitations and do not underestimate the instrumental power of others.
  • Understand that we are called to convert, not to condemn.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Able to remain graceful and courteous if harassed by passers-by, abortion workers or abortion seekers.
