The pro-life view is rational, coherent and compassionate. Every pro-lifer needs to be able to offer a good explanation of his or her views.
A good starting point is to learn about the unborn child. The issue of abortion hangs on the humanity of the one being aborted. If abortion is nothing more than removing a clump of tissue, then there is no reason to oppose it. On the other hand, if the unborn child is human, no reason can justify the intentional taking of his or her life.
Abortion is often justified on the grounds of seeking to protect the health of the mother. This is a trojan horse which deserves to be unmasked. Pro-lifers do not place the child's life above that of the mother. We seek to save the lives of both mother and child. However, the mother's life may be saved by a medical procedure that does not directly take the life of the unborn child. This is the principle of double effect - for further discusion on this issue, see our Apologetics section. The intentional killing of the unborn child does not heal the mother, it often has the opposite effect.

Why women choose abortion
The Contraceptive mentality
A very telling statement showing the link between contraception and abortion comes from, ironically, the U.S. Supreme Court. In the Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pa. v. Casey - 505 U.S. 833 (1992) ruling, it was frankly admitted that people for two decades of economic and social developments, have organized intimate relationships and made choices that define their views of themselves and their places in society, in reliance on the availability of abortion in the event that contraception should fail.(p. 835) The following articles demonstrate the causal link from contraception to abortion.
This is an examination of today's contraceptive mentality and the effects it continues to have on marriage and procreation. Donald DeMarco provides evidence that supports how contraception is not preventing unwanted pregnancy, but is the reason for the current abortion holocaust. He says, Since abortion thrives on the contraceptive mentality, we fight abortion realistically not by doubling our efforts to intensify the contraceptive mentality, but by working to eliminate it.
It must seem strange to call anything our gravest moral responsibility. There are so many moral problems in the world today. How can any one of them pose our gravest responsibility. But so it is. In my judgment, the contraception mentality is the single deepest issue facing Western society.
Contraception is primarily the reflection of a fundamental way in which people face life. The “contraceptive mentality” is understood to include complete way of thinking [sic], an orientation and way of acting, which tend towards depriving the practice of sexuality of its procreative consquences. This mentality increased with the mass-marketing of contraceptive products and the associated widespread advertisement and propaganda for them.

We need to realize that a society in which contraceptives are widely used is going to have a very difficult time keeping free of abortions since the lifestyles and attitudes that contraception fosters create an alleged "need" for abortion.
In Our Midst seeks to share the truth of abortion - who has abortions, why they have them, how abortion affects their lives afterward, and what we, the hands and feet of Christ can do to minister to them.
In 1987, the Pro-Life Action League hosted the first Meet the Abortion Providers Conference. Former abortionists were invited to tell their stories publicly for the first time. They revealed what led them into the abortion business, how their work killing babies impacted their lives and what eventually led them out of abortion.
